Weight Loss Buddy?

April 13, 2010

We’ve been poking around the internet to see if we can find something to help Bunny with her weight loss struggle.

Today we stumbled across a website called Weight Loss Buddy.

Apparently, you sign up (we haven’t scrutinized it thoroughly, but at first blush it appears to be free), and the site connects you to a buddy–someone who is struggling to lose weight. You and your buddy work together to keep each other focused and on track.

We’ve never heard of this site, but gosh, it sounds like a good idea. We can just see Bunny lying on the mat at the gym, sweating and grunting and just wanting to go home. She picks up her phone (yes, she takes her phone when she works out. She’d die without her iPhone, and believe us, she’s not the only one walking around with a towel, a bottle of water and a phone. She turns it off and would never talk on it, but what if she got an email or a text? plus, she uses the clock to know how long it will be before she can leave). So in the midst of her suffering, on the verge of giving up, Bunny sends a text message to some faceless buddy somewhere in the internet cloud,

“I want to go home! My back hurts! I’m not having fun! Waaaahh!!!”

and an all-caps reply comes back, spurring her on:

Keep at it!

Finish your workout!

Think about the results!

Think how much I’ll laugh if I lose more than you do this week!

Yep, we like this buddy idea. Bunny’s the suspicious type, though, and we’re not going to get her to sign up without doing a little more research.

We also stumbled across a Nutrition Navigator on the Tufts University website. This site rates weight-loss and nutrition websites. Poking around there led us to the Health-E-Weight website. There’s lots of good information there, including this article on preventing a diet relapse.

There’s even a tool to evaluate your own body image. Bunny scored 11 on a scale of 0 to 18, where zero means you’re delighted with your body and 18 means you think you’re a worthless slug. More or less.

We have lots of reading to do.

Let us know if you know anything about Weight Loss Buddy, okay?
